LEHIGH ACRES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WHITE PAPER
Revised June 13, 2006
Board of Directors has identified certain issues of importance to the Lehigh Acres community. The Board has chosen those listed below as its platform of action. These issues are to be published for the benefit and knowledge of the community, and transmitted to county and state officials so they may be aware of our objectives. These issues will also be reviewed periodically and changed as circumstances dictate.
1. The establishment of a Lee County office in Lehigh Acres to handle such matters as occupational licenses, building permits and to provide a source of correct information on County matters.
2. The establishment of an Advisory Committee to review zoning changes and to serve as an architectural review board, using other local communities as models.
3. An intensive study of the utilities situation in Lehigh Acres, working with the Lee County Utility Division, factoring in growth and how to handle expansion of present systems.
4. Greater consideration to be given to the appointment of Lehigh Acres citizens to County boards and commissions, including Smart Growth and any utility boards.
5. Immediate action to correct some of the present zoning shortfalls, specifically commercial zoning. Although this will be addressed by the L.A. Community Planning Corporation, some steps should be taken in advance of their final report.
6. Work toward ways of consolidating acreage for parks and large commercial ventures without the use of eminent domain.
7. Support for a North-South highway corridor from SR 80 to SR 82 and on to Alico Road.
8. Expedite the widening of Lehigh Acres southern border road - SR 82 from the current 2 lanes to 4 or more lanes from I-75 to SR 29
9. Greater emphasis on Code Enforcement to set high standards of cleanliness and to eliminate eye-sores. Cooperate with Lehigh Clean Sweep
10. A continuous review of transportation needs, to include road construction, road improvements, expansion of public transportation, and investigation of a park and ride program.
11. Work with other communities to develop methods of acquiring tracts of land for public and private use, avoiding to the greatest extent possible the use of eminent domain. Positive findings to be presented to legislative delegations.
12. Work for the incorporation of Lehigh Acres as a city if economic indicators indicate such a movement would be feasible.
13. Continue to support the efforts of the Lehigh Acres Planning Corp. in developing a more efficient land use plan as they attempt to correct the problems with one of Florida's largest "antiquated subdivisions, Lehigh Acres.
The March 24, 2006 version was changed by revising the3rd para, 4th para., 7th para., 9th para. and 12th para. The former 9th para was eliminated. In the future paragraphs will be numbered.
Here is the Chamber’s platform for current action, your response is welcomed!

NEWS RELEASE
Lehigh Acres Chamber makes Gift Giving easier!
Last November this Chamber contracted with CertifiChecks, Inc. to provide gift certificates, which could be redeemed in our member’s places of business. The company designed this product for Chambers of Commerce, and it has worked so well that they are making several improvements based on their experience.
First, the name is going to be changed from CertifiChecks to Chamber Checks, with a new logo reflecting that change.
A second improvement is the elimination of expiration dates on the certificates. Originally the gift certificates expired one year from the date imprinted on them. This is no longer the case, and certificates will be good forever.
The company is currently contacting selected employers in the Lehigh Acres marketing area, encouraging them to purchase certificates as recognition gifts, as bonuses, or to commemorate special occasions.
A pamphlet has been published listing all of our members who might logically receive our certificates as payment for goods or services. The certificates are used exactly like cash. Any change may be given in cash or store credit. They may be purchased at the Chamber office, or:
